Environmental noise in advanced LIGO detectors

نویسندگان

چکیده

The sensitivity of the advanced LIGO detectors to gravitational waves can be affected by environmental disturbances external themselves. Since transition from former initial phase, many improvements have been made equipment and techniques used investigate these effects. These methods aided in tracking down mitigating noise sources throughout first three observing runs detector era, keeping ambient contribution below background levels detectors. In this paper we describe how they led mitigation sources, role that monitoring has played validation wave events, plans for future runs.

Classification methods for noise transients in advanced gravitational-wave detectors II: performance tests on Advanced LIGO data

The data taken by the advanced LIGO and Virgo gravitational-wave detectors contains short duration noise transients that limit the significance of astrophysical detections and reduce the duty cycle of the instruments. As the advanced detectors are reaching sensitivity levels that allow for multiple detections of astrophysical gravitational-wave sources it is crucial to achieve a fast and accura...

The Ligo Detectors Controls

All three LIGO detectors have reached their design sensitivities. A sky-averaged detection range (SNR > 8) of more than 15 Mpc for inspiral binary neutron stars with masses of 1.4 Msol has been achieved with the two 4 km instruments. The fifth LIGO science started in November 2005 and ended September 2007. About 365 days of coincidence data have been collected. The feedback controls system is a...

Correlated Magnetic Noise in the Advanced LIGO Detector

A stochastic gravitational wave background is expected to arise as the result of many overlapping, individually indistinguishable sources. Such a background is measured by correlating the strain signal in two detectors like those part of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO). The two detectors must be sufficiently far apart to minimize common noise sources, which create...

Status of the LIGO detectors

All three LIGO gravitational wave detectors have reached their design sensitivities. A sky-averaged detection range (SNR > 8) of more than 15 Mpc for gravitational waves emitted from inspiral binary neutron stars with masses of 1.4 M has been achieved with the two 4 km instruments. The fifth LIGO science run started in November 2005 and ended in September 2007. A full year of triple coincidence...
